L’Akpéma est un rituel en pays Kabié (au nord du Togo) au cours duquel les femmes âgées apprennent aux jeunes filles comment devenir des femmes dignes et mûres.
Au cours de son initiation, Gentille apprit des secrets sur l’histoire de sa grand-mère. Elle comprit aussi pourquoi son père la maltraitait.
Aujourd’hui, choisie comme marraine pour l’Akpéma de sa petite sœur, il lui revient de transmettre à celle-ci cette histoire qu’elle a portée en elle, comme une femme porte un bébé en son sein.
Le Rite, la Folle et Moi est une histoire de transmission, une occasion de comprendre le poids des traditions et la complexité des cultures africaines. C’est surtout l’occasion pour deux sœurs d’effacer l’injure qui entache la descendance de leur grand-mère.

In Kabie Land, the Akpema is a ritual during which elderly women teach teenagers how to become dignified women. This ritual made me aware of elements in my grandmother’s life that were the reason for my father’s violent attitude towards me as a child. Now, as my younger sister’s godmother for her Akpema, I have to introduce her to this story in order to erase the infamy sullying my grandmother’s lineage. It’s a story about handing down in Togo, an opportunity to get to understand the weight of tradition and the intricacy of our African cultures.
